2008 Holmes-Wayne Electric Cooperative Scholarship
Applications
Any high school senior with a current cumulative grade point average of “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or better who is the son, daughter or legal ward of a Holmes-Wayne Electric Cooperative, Inc. member residing in a home currently served by Holmes-Wayne Electric Cooperative, Inc. is eligible. Members of the immediate families and people residing in the households of Trustees, Managers, Distribution Cooperative employees and Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (OREC) or affiliated organization employees are not eligible to participate in the competition.
- A transcript of the applicant’s grades, signed by a school official, must be attached to the typed application form and submitted with the application
- Application forms must be typed.
- Application forms, transcript of grades and a wallet-sized photo of the student applicant must be submitted to the cooperative office no later than February 15, 2008. All items submitted become the property of Holmes-Wayne Electric Cooperative and will be held in confidence. Mailing address: PO Box 112; Millersburg, Ohio 44654
- Students who have received a full tuition scholarship to the school of his/her choice are not eligible for this contest.
- Judges for the local contest are chosen by the Cooperative, and judging is based on the following point system:
- 50 Points - Scholastic record
- 20 Points - Personal achievement and leadership in school and community activities
- 15 Points - Personal interview relating to articulation, communication skills and maturity
Holmes-Wayne Electric will award six total scholarships (three each to boys and girls) as follows:
- 1st Prize Award of $1,000.00 to the top scorer in each division, Boys’ and Girls’
- 2nd Prize Award of $750.00 to the second-highest scorer in each division, Boys’ and Girls’
- 3rd Prize Award of $500.00 to the third-highest scorer in each division, Boys’ and Girls’
Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. statewide contest:
The highest-scoring girl and the highest-scoring boy in the Holmes-Wayne Electric Cooperative, Inc. competition will be eligible to compete in a statewide contest sponsored by Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (OREC). This competition will be held in Columbus, Ohio in May 2008. The same material entered in the local contest will be used for the statewide contest. If for any reason the first-place winner in either division cannot participate in the competition in Columbus, the next-highest-scoring participant in that division of the Holmes-Wayne Electric Cooperative, Inc. competition will compete in the OREC, Inc. competition.
The Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. awards are as follows:
- 1st Place: $2,500.00 – Boys’ and Girls’ Division
- 2nd Place: $1,750.00 – Boys’ and Girls’ Division
- 3rd Place: $1,500.00 – Boys’ and Girls’ Division
- 4th Place: $1,400.00 – Boys’ and Girls’ Division
- 5th Place: $1,300.00 – Boys’ and Girls’ Division
- 6th Place: $1,200.00 – Boys’ and Girls’ Division
